Ken Jenkins

“Shaping glass in the flame is my passion. I seek to reveal the essence of glass with regard to fluidity of form and color. My work is focused on an Organic Aesthetic that reflects color, form, and texture found in nature. My growth as an artist is based on experimentation as well as acquiring a deeper understanding and mastery of established techniques.”
Largely self-taught, Ken Jenkins began flameworking glass in 2001 in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2002 he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a painter, being featured in several galleries. He also gained studio experience working with world renowned artist, Alex Grey, from 2006-2008. Returning to Florida in 2008, Ken has resumed flameworking full time and continues to paint. “My work is focused on an Organic Aesthetic that reflects color, form, and texture found in nature.” Curiosity led him to pick up the paintbrush around 1996 initiating an ongoing series of paintings exploring color and texture and their effects on perceived movement. Glass Art was a self-evident next step in 2001 when Ken was approached by a friend to split the cost of opening a flameworking studio. Recently he has enjoyed success at the Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville where he displays his work weekly as well as being commissioned by the Jacksonville Film Festival to create a series of awards. Ken has also been invited to the Annual Old Island Days Art Festival in Key West, Florida, where his work is also on display at the Green World Gallery. Ken and his wife, Eva, have long been advocates of the environment. In the past they worked as Habitat Conservation Volunteers with the Ponte Vedra Beach Turtle Patrol, in Florida, staking and monitoring Sea Turtle nests along the beach. They currently donate a portion of the proceeds from all glass turtle sales to the Turtle Hospital in Marathon Key, Florida. They are both members of the not-for-profit organization and truly believe in their mission.. This picture featured is just one of his many works of art.
