Jim Abernethy
Jim Abernethy has spent a lifetime pursuing sharks all over the world. For the last decade he has lived at sea, miles from shore, doing back-to-back shark expeditions year round. His award winning images are unique and intensely intimate because he personally knows these elegant creatures.
Jim also operates a scuba charter dive service, as well as a marine life art gallery located in West Palm Beach, Florida. His 65-foot live-aboard vessel M/V Shearwater offers the best in Bahamas diving, specializing in big animal encounters including great hammerhead, tiger, oceanic white tip, bull and lemon shark expeditions at Tiger Beach. The Deep Obsession, based in Palm Beach, provides daily drift diving year round on local reefs and wrecks.
Jim has always been at the forefront of the action and sees sharks as they truly are, not as they are often preconceived by the media or fertile imaginations. In his new book, Sharks – Up Close, Jim employs his decades of experience diving with sharks to answer many of the most compelling questions about these animals.
