Jake Thomas

Jake ThomasI started playing way back in the 80′s. I was in your typical high school garage R N R Band. We were called “Black Diamond” named after a Kiss song. After graduation I went to work for Sesac and got a firsthand look on how tough the music business was, so I hung up the six string. I made my first trip down to the Gulf in my early teens and I fell in love with those Gulf waters soon as my toes hit the sand. Fast forward 20 plus year later I made my first trip to Orange Beach, Alabama. I visited places, (Tacky Jacks, Pink Pony, Flora-Bama, Lu Lu’s etc.), talked to a lot of locals while over looking Perdido Bay and it seem like the piece of puzzle that has missing all my life had been found. I lived about 5 miles from while he lived in Nashville Eric Stone and he gave me a lot of advice on writing and playing and we ended up writing a song together that appeared on his cd “Permanent Vacation” the song is called “Beer Money”. There’s a funny story behind the song… I was driving home from work one evening and I noticed a homeless man standing at the red light holding a sign that read “Why lie I need Beer Money”. I fell for it hook, line and sinker…yeah I gave him $5.00 and told him to have a drink on me. Things started to get real serious after I met a Nashville Songwriter by the name of Mike Schultz. He and I began writing songs about our love for the Gulf and before I knew it, I had enough great songs for a CD. I have tried recording the CD several ways. I first tried recording it myself which turned out to be a disaster. I also tried using a studio production company here in Nashville, but once again it turned into a disaster. The guys were great to work with but they really didn’t get the whole Trop Rock Music concept. Finally I met Kevin Johnston, from the band Capt. Quint. He owns and operates “The Orca Sound Studios” a studio in Baltimore MD. He mentioned to me that he was going to start recording and producing other Trop Rock artist and would be happy to record and produce my project. I can honestly say it has been nothing, but a positive experience and he has taken my music to the next level.
