Munson Island

Munson Island is one of the least known islands in the Lower Keys and can only be accessed by boat.
Located about a 20 minute ride from Little Torch Key at mile marker 28.5 in Hawk channel. The property is approximately nine acres. Munson Island, today’s Little Palm Island, was named by Charles Newton Munson, who purchased it in 1923. He planted dozens of coconut palms and barged a surplus military building down from Jacksonville to make his winter retreat. Ruth Ellison, pictured in the photograph, was Munson’s secretary who inherited the property and ran it as a fish camp.
