Renoir Dancing Statues

Dancing Statue Have you seen the sculptures of the dancing couples in front of the Custom House Museum? They probably look familiar.  Created by sculpture artist J. Seward Johnson, they are based on Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s dancing couples. At 20+ feet tall, they really are larger than life.  With the unmistakable carnelian bonnet, this dancing couple is called “Time for Fun,” based on Renoir’s “Dance in the Country.”  The artist added expressions not seen in the original paintings.  These gorgeous statues are well worth making a trip to see.
