Bahia Honda Rail Bridge

Bahia-Honda-Bridge
The original Bahia Honda Rail Bridge was a trestle built by Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway in the early 1900′s. When the railroad went out of business after the Hurricane of 1935 on Labor Day, the State of Florida acquired the right of way and built U.S. 1 on top of the trestle. Motorist were given a breathtaking view and an exciting ride over the bridge. The bridge was one of the 37 bridges that were to be replaced in the 70′s and 80′s. After the bridge was replaced by the Bahia Honda Bridge in 1972 sections of the old bridge were removed, but the rest still remains standing.
